It started with a fascination for what makes an object exceptional.
Rin has spent years as a designer, with a particular appreciation for the details most people overlook. Materials, proportion, weight, function, and the quiet decisions that determine whether something simply works or feels truly considered.
That appreciation eventually found its way into a lifelong fascination with pens.
As a zirconium pen collector, Rin found the Canadian market surprisingly limited. The pieces available didn't always reflect the materials, craftsmanship, or design they were looking for.
So came a simple question:
How hard could it be to make one?
The answer was harder than expected.
In January 2025, Rin began designing their own pens in CAD, bringing years of design experience into a new kind of craft. What began as a personal pursuit became an opportunity to rethink the everyday writing instrument from the ground up.
Every detail mattered. How it sits in the hand. How the mechanism moves. How it can be refilled. How the materials age. How the smallest elements come together to create something that feels effortless.
The notebooks followed naturally.
Designed alongside the pens, they share the same philosophy: durable, modular, considered, and free from unnecessary compromise. Rin draws inspiration from the work of other makers, then pushes further, looking for ways to refine, simplify, and improve.
That pursuit is at the heart of Dark Moon.
These aren't objects made simply to be beautiful. They are designed by someone who understands how things are made, how they are used, and why the details matter.
From the material in your hand to the page beneath it, every decision has a purpose.
Dark Moon is where Rin's design practice, curiosity, and appreciation for exceptional objects converge.
The result is something meant to be used often, lived with, and kept for a long time.
